Will It Blend?

Welcome to the Tuff-Writer - BlendTec Challenge

UPDATE: Ok, here it is... the moment we've all been waiting for, the official video for the Tuff-Writer / BlendTec challenge.

So how did everything go down? Well it was actually pretty exciting. We weren't sure if this would all end in tears, blood and flying bits of metal but hey, why not see for yourselves?

Did the pen survive? Yup, it sure did. In fact other than ripping the clip off and putting some dings in the surface, the pen was just fine.

Did the blender survive? Mostly. The blender itself was fine but the container was a mess and the blades were saw-toothed after getting beaten up by the pen. If we had left it on longer, it looked like the pen would have been dinged up some more but the blades would have probably been completely destroyed.

Why didn't you show the pen writing afterwards? It honestly didn't occur to me until we started editing the video and my friends saw the footage. The pen wrote just fine.

Was the cartridge still functional? Actually it was, although it did leak inside the cap from all the banging around. I would probably swap it out just in case it was now prone to leaking.

What wil happen with the pen now? The pen is currently resting comfortably after winning the title. It's making the rounds at some of our local dealers, doing a few book signings and soaking up the warm Arizona sun preparing for its next fight.

Will you do another challenge? Hard to say for sure. The pen has hired an agent and is trying to pitch a reality show about its experience to some cable network. We've been trying to set up another event but the pen's agent is demanding a cut of all pay-per-view royalties and negotiations have broken down for the moment. There are also some disagreements about which sanctioning body future events should be held under. It's a mess, I think Dana White is involved somehow.

UPDATE: We've filmed it! That's right, our blender came in the mail and we spent Saturday prepping (you know... first aid kit, stand-by EMT, fire extinguisher and a roll of duct tape) and filming the challenge.

It'll take a few days for us to put the scenes together and get the video posted (I'm no Michael Bay so don't expect any cinema magic here) but we think you're going to like it.

In the meantime, here's the trailer:

Goal: For every pen sold we will take $5 (no, we're not raising prices) and put it towards the purchase (~$500) of a Blendtec blender.

Why: For years now BlendTec, makers of the ultimate blender, has been blending iPads, pens and everything imaginable up to and including Chuck Norris to prove just how tough their handy kitchen appliance is and posting the videos all over the internet. We're convinced... almost. You see, for a few years now we've been emailing, Facebook posting and offering one of our pens up for the BlendTec "Will It Blend?" challenge and so far, nothing. Crickets chirping. Not a single reply. We're beginning to think that Tom Dickson doesn't want to try blending a Tuff-Writer pen. Fortunately, here at Tuff-Writer we don't know the meaning of the word "failure" (we appreciate the help but don't bother with the Facebook posts helping to clear it up, we're just being dramatic). So we've decided to take matters into our own hands. Yup, that's right... in the name of science (and a sense of morbid curiosity) we're going to put our money, and a pen or two, where our mouth is and do our own Tuff-Writer BlendTec Challenge.

Admit it, you really want to see this too.

When: When we reach $500 we will buy a BlendTec and ask customers which pen they want to see given a whirl first. We'll record it, put it on FB and on our site and show you the results. With any luck at the end of the day, we'll still have all of our fingers and toes. I mean seriously... what's the worst that could happen?
